Eight years ago, I launched the website “Tech Labari” (formerly known as Tech Nova GH). It was formed because I felt that there was a need for a local platform to document Ghana’s evolving technology ecosystem.

For the past eight years, Tech Labari has been publishing tech stories in Ghana and the African region.

During the pandemic, I attempted to create another platform, something that focused on topics other than technology.

It was called “Labari Magazine”. It was an online platform which could publish stories about women, lifestyle and more.

Unfortunately, I closed it up in about three months, and it was a hard lesson for me.

Why Start A New Media Platform

Over the years, I felt like the media in Ghana has been on a downward trend.

Readers are inundated with sensational clickbait stories, all lacking substance that could benefit them.

It’s important now more than ever to give readers more information about complex issues.

Learning the lessons from Labari Magazine, I’m launching a new news platform called “The Labari Journal”.

The Labari Journal is more focused on deep, community-driven stories. We’re looking more deeply into stories that are often overlooked.

The Journal will lean more into narrative storytelling, using as much available data to help educate and inform readers about issues in Ghana and Africa.

I want The Journal to be as open as possible. We’re open to contributors who wish to write and tell stories from their countries or communities.

If you want to submit a story, you can read the guidelines here.

We’re also only open to stories/articles from contributors but also opinion pieces. If you want to contribute, you can read the guidelines and process here.

My hope The Labari Journal is here for the long term. In times where misinformation appears to be rampant and media trying to capitalize on virality, we want to be the source of truth and information.

If we flame out, then we gave it our best shot. But we’re going to try out hardest this time around to stay around.

Welcome to The Labari Journal.
