Kenyan Blogger Hit and Assaulted to Death – Autopsy Report
What’s Happening: A Kenyan blogger who died in police custody was hit on the head and his death was likely to have been caused by assault, a post-mortem has revealed.
This contradicts police claims that Albert Ojwang “sustained head injuries after hitting his head against a cell wall“.
Mr Ojwang, a digital creator who microblogged on X and Facebook on topical political and social issues, was arrested in Homa Bay, a town in western Kenya, on Friday.
The 31-year-old, who is also said to be a teacher,was detained over a post on X that was allegedly critical of Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat.

Togo’s President Faces Calls for Resignation
What’s Happening: Togo’s President Faure Gnassingbé is facing growing pressure following a government clampdown on protests calling for his resignation over recent changes in the constitution that could effectively keep him in power indefinitely.
Activists on Tuesday condemned the arrest and alleged maltreatment of dozens of people following staged protests late last week in Togo’s capital, Lomé, and on social media.
Background: The Togolese leader, who has ruled since 2005 after the death of his father, was sworn in as President of the Council of Ministers in May.
The powerful role has no official term limits, and he is eligible to be re-elected by parliament indefinitely.

Russia Plans to Boost Economic and Military Cooperation with Africa
What’s Happening: Russia is stepping up cooperation with African countries, including in defence and security.
“We really intend to comprehensively develop our interaction with African countries, focusing primarily on economic and investment interaction“, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said.
“This also corresponds to and extends to such sensitive areas as defence and security. In this regard, Russia will also continue interaction and cooperation with African states.“
Background: The mercenary group Wagner had been deployed in Mali since December 2021 and had been repeatedly accused of human rights abuses.
