Spotify, the world’s leading audio streaming platform, announced on Monday that it will raise prices for its Premium subscriptions in multiple markets across South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Latin America, and the Asia-Pacific region.

The Swedish-based company, which reported 276 million paying subscribers and 696 million monthly active users in its second-quarter earnings for 2025, stated that the price changes are necessary to “continue to innovate on our product offerings and features and bring users the best experience.”

Existing Premium subscribers in affected markets will receive an email detailing the changes to their subscriptions, while new subscribers can view updated pricing on Spotify’s website.

Spotify’s decision comes amid a period of robust growth. In its most recent earnings report, the company highlighted a 12 percent year-over-year increase in subscribers and a 10 percent rise in total revenue to €4.2 billion.

However, the company has faced challenges in balancing its freemium model—offering free, ad-supported access alongside paid subscriptions—with the need to invest in new features like audiobook integration, AI-driven playlists, and enhanced creator tools.

Spotify operates in 49 African countries, including Ghana and Nigeria. Prices for premium subscriptions range between $2 and $4.
